Le problematiche scolastiche degli adolescenti migranti

Quali sentimenti accompagnano gli adolescenti immigrati nei loro processi di integrazione? E come influenzano il loro sviluppo di vita?

Il fenomeno dell’immigrazione è in costante crescita nel nostro paese e la scuola superiore ormai accoglie immigrati di seconda generazione, ragazzi e ragazze figli di immigrati, nati in Italia o arrivati in Italia in tenera età. E’ facile imbattersi in ragazzi dai marcati tratti orientali o africani o sudamericani, che parlano con perfetto accento romano.

Accedono al Centro di Ascolto prevalentemente su pressione dagli insegnanti che vivono la difficoltà di aiutarli, come nel caso di Jian.

Jian ha 14 anni, ha concluso il primo anno di liceo, non è andato a vedere i quadri: è sicuro di non essere stato ammesso al secondo anno, ma non vuole vederlo scritto.

E’ nato a Roma ma i suoi genitori sono cinesi, a pochi mesi è stato mandato in Cina dai parenti perché i genitori, in Italia da molti anni, non potevano occuparsene, sono commercianti e lavorano entrambi tutto il giorno. Torna a Roma all’età di 6 anni.

Dopo qualche anno i genitori entrano in crisi, la casa diventa teatro di continui litigi in cui a volte il ragazzo è coinvolto, gli viene richiesto più o meno esplicitamente di schierarsi, ma Jian non sente nessuno dei due genitori come punto di riferimento: ha paura del padre che a volte alza le mani, e tiene a distanza la madre che quando litiga con il marito se la prende anche con Jian, non vuole nessuno dei due vicino. Non ricorda molto del suo trascorso con i nonni, neanche il cinese, e non lo vuole imparare qui, i genitori parlano poco l’italiano, non hanno mai fatto niente per migliorarlo, se capitano discussioni ognuno parla nella lingua che conosce meglio.

Non è raro che adolescenti immigrati di seconda generazione ignorino la loro lingua madre e siano estranei, nello stesso tempo, al paese di origine e a quello di immigrazione.

Succede che l’adolescente immigrato vorrebbe integrarsi con la nuova cultura ma questo può provocare sentimenti di colpa per il desiderio di allontanarsi dalle tradizioni familiari e per il tradimento nei confronti  dei genitori che hanno lasciato il loro paese, lavorano duramente per non far mancare nulla ai figli e cercano di mantenere le tradizioni culturali. Per quanto riguarda Jian in verità lui si sente italiano, ma sente di non poter portare avanti questa identità e di non  riuscire ad appartenere a nessun gruppo di italiani.

Jian ha brusche cadute dell’umore, frequenta la scuola in maniera discontinua, a volte è assente per giorni, non riesce a studiare e il suo rendimento scolastico lo conferma. Vorrebbe lasciare la scuola perché non sa per chi proseguirla, non ha un buon rapporto con i compagni, si sente ignorato, poco considerato, ha l’impressioni che gli altri non siano interessati a lui. Non condivide interessi con loro che di solito parlano di calcio, scuola e compiti, mentre lui è interessato ad altro. Evita di avvicinarsi per paura di essere respinto. Il sentimento di estraneità prevale. I compagni in verità non lo escludono, anzi vorrebbero coinvolgerlo, hanno provato più volte, l’aspettativa di Jian è massima e finisce che si esclude da solo.

Il suo percorso inizia in salita, con l’impossibilità di mantenere una continuità nella relazione di attaccamento, aspetto riconosciuto ormai come elemento di vulnerabilità del percorso evolutivo (Bowlby). Non poter costruire legami di attaccamento stabili nel primo periodo di vita esercita un ruolo sfavorevole sullo sviluppo della personalità. La consapevolezza di poter contare sulla protezione e il conforto della figura di attaccamento in caso di necessità, crea uno stato di sicurezza emotiva da cui è possibile partire per l’esplorazione del mondo esterno e del proprio mondo interno. Possiamo perciò immaginare quali conseguenze può avere il mancato consolidamento di un legame di attaccamento. Jian è stato qualche mese con i genitori, poi è stato mandato in Cina, e si ricongiunge con loro quando ormai è passato troppo tempo per ricostruire il vecchio legame, un attaccamento sostitutivo era stato probabilmente ricostruito con i parenti con cui ha vissuto nei primi anni e da cui è stato separato. Ha perciò dovuto affrontare due passaggi importanti. I suoi genitori, poi, sono tutt’altro che stabili, date le pressanti problematiche lavorative ed economiche, quando non di coppia, che devono quotidianamente affrontare.

Gli insegnanti avrebbero voluto aiutarlo ma le assenze continue lo hanno reso praticamente impossibile, oltre a stimolare in loro forti sentimenti di impotenza. Hanno convocato più volte i genitori, che però non l’hanno presa per il verso giusto e considerano le difficoltà del figlio come una forma di non rispetto nei loro confronti, così il loro coinvolgimento risulta poco utile.

Jian è sospeso tra due mondi, come la maggior parte dei minori immigrati di seconda generazione: l’italiano lo conosce bene ma la doppia pressione culturale – quella in casa con genitori che non sono poi modelli positivi di identificazione e quella fuori casa con i compagni che rappresentano la quotidianità -, gli rendono difficile costruirsi un’identità culturale più definita.

In generale, durante l’adolescenza la scelta del gruppo dei coetanei soddisfa più di ogni altra le esigenze di socializzazione dei ragazzi, che trovano nel gruppo la conferma del proprio valore e delle proprie potenzialità nel processo di costruzione di una identità adulta. È la frequentazione dei coetanei e l’assunzione dei loro modelli di vita che garantisce l’integrazione nel paese d’immigrazione. Quando questo non avviene, l’adolescente immigrato tende a rifugiarsi nell’isolamento, a ripiegare su se stesso, anche se, comunque, il gruppo dei pari rimane l’unico accettabile termine di paragone. Il grado d’accettazione e il riconoscimento che avvengono al suo interno, infatti, sono responsabili della gamma di strategie che vanno dalla più completa assimilazione alla cultura d’accoglienza, fino all’estremo isolamento. In casi limite può accadere che l’adolescente, persi stimoli ed incentivi a mantenere la propria identità etnica, che sembra non avere più spazio e ragione nel mondo esterno da lui percepito e frequentato, rischi di divenire un emarginato nella propria comunità, continuando per altro a rimanere un emarginato dalla società esterna, poiché non ancora in grado di inserirsi in essa.

In questo caso possono svilupparsi quei fenomeni che la sociologia definisce di “anomia sociale”, che diventano terreno fertile per l’emergere del disagio psicopatologico e/o di comportamenti devianti.

A scuola si lavora continuamente per la costruzione di un contesto positivo e di scambio tra le diverse culture anche se è sempre più chiara l’idea che l’integrazione possa rimanere parziale per questi ragazzi: alla disponibilità dei compagni di classe e degli insegnanti, non corrisponde altrettanta disponibilità da parte dei giovani immigrati che devono evidentemente mantenere una certa distanza per tutelarsi da scossoni relazionali, comuni nei rapporti interpersonali, ma che a loro risulterebbero intollerabili.
